Winners

 

The winning students' writings from the Missouri Writing Region for the national Scholastic writing contest comprise each edition of Missouri Youth Write, a journal sponsored by the Missouri Association of Teachers of English.

September:
Receive contest materials. Begin state-wide distribution.
The Scholastic Writing Awards Contest begins. Registration open; submissions accepted.




January 5, 2018:
Deadline for Missouri Writing Region submissions.

January 2018:
 All scoring will be online. Please email Katie Kline kkline@ucmo.edu if you wish to serve as a juror.​

February 2018:
Missouri Writing Region Awards are announced. Award emails are sent to winners, inviting them, their families, and teachers to the state award ceremony at the Missouri Write-to-Learn Conference. Gold award pieces are forwarded for national judging.

February 2018:
Award Ceremony at Write-to-Learn.


May/June 2018:
National Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall.

June 2018:
Missouri Youth Write, an anthology of all works receiving Gold, Silver, or Honorable Mention awards, will be published online.

Read through the expansive list of this year's Missouri Scholastic Writing Region Awards contest winners and their submissions in Missouri Youth Write.

The latest edition features the collection of award-winning student material, including examples of fiction, poetry, essays and memoirs. In February students are honored at an awards ceremony as a part of the Write to Learn Conference at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri.

Submissions

 

Submission Information
Deadline: Friday, January 5, 2018.
Sign Up and Submit Contest Entries Online

Go to www.artandwriting.org to 

  • Register
  • Complete contest entry forms (print and sign one copy of each form)
  • Upload contest writing entries


Pay the Contest Fee Online or Submit a Fee Waiver Request
Fees: $5.00 for each individual category submission and $20.00 for each portfolio submission.​ 


Students for whom fees would be a barrier to participation, including those who currently qualify under the Federal School Lunch Act for the Free and Reduced Lunch program, may submit a request on school letterhead, signed by a teacher or administrator, that their fees be waived. Fee waivers must be mailed in with a signed copy of the contest entry form.

Students who are 12 years old or younger may not sign up or submit contest entries online. They should obtain a paper submission entry form at www.artandwriting.org and mail or deliver their signed entry forms, fees, and contest entries.
